Roller Derby

The Roller Derby Season has already begun and it's on it's way!  Who remembers watching Roller Derby on Saturday mornings and did you know when and where the first game was ever played?  Roller Derby took the rinks in 1935 in Chicago, Illinois with three rotations of five skaters at a time as the Jammers tried to lap the opposing team to score points.

If you think this so called barbaric sport has bitten the dust, you are sadly mistaken.  The 2018 season just took off this past Saturday for the New Jersey Roller Derby Teams competed against each other. The Blue Steel vs the Betty Whites.  If you missed these brawling Beauties battle it out, no worries.  There are more action packed skating to come in Morristown, New Jersey.

Go check em out the New Jersey Roller Derby

Parking Garage

Timothy couldn't wait until he got to the west coast to give his sales pitch to the CEO of a very prestigious and lucrative firm.  Just eight short hours and he'll be there dressed to impress and ready to give a presentation of a lifetime.  He was confident as everyone sat in the boardroom that everything was going to go smoothly without a hitch.

Just as Timothy predicted, the presentation was a success and his innovative design was going to be cutting edge above competition.  He couldn't wait to fly home and spread the good news.  Once his plane arrived back home, he was over anxious to get into his vehicle, so he could get home and spread the good fortune with his wife and family.  That's until he walked up to his SUV in the airport parking garage.

Set Sail at Dawn

Hoist ye sail and cast away

May your anchor be tight
Your cork be loose
Your rum be spiced
And your compass be true

Ye set sail at dawn

Trains Ready for the Crusher

Cut, Crushed and Destroyed

So sad to see some old train coaches being demolished by an excavator that is simply pulverizing them.  Thrown into a heap of mangled metal at hauled away to God knows were.  There is a string of these cars not too far away from where this classic was destroyed and I fear they are headed for the crusher.

Denville Auto Center

To what point when a building is unoccupied do we consider it abandoned?  A month, a year or possibly decades as the Denville Auto Center has been for countless years.  Smack, dab in plain view by thousands every day along a US highway.  There's nothing wrong structurally nor has it been vandalized.  Yet there hasn't been anyone occupying this small garage for as long as I can remember.

Abandoned or simply unoccupied?  You be the Judge!

Volkswagen Beetle

Ranking number four of all time best selling vehicles this beauty Volkswagen Beetle is undoubtedly one of the longest running production cars in history.  Built in 1938 this Bug captured the hearts in the multi-culture movement right through into the 1970's.

The economical price and funkadelic design of the Love Bug later lost her number one spot manufacturing 23.5 million Bugs to three other vehicles.  Let's start with her sister, the Volkswagen Golf with 30 million cars.  Then tying for number one bragging rights is the Ford F150 Pickup and Toyota Corolla, producing 40 million vehicles each.

I reality there is one car that out shines all these by a landslide.  Created in 1979 this vehicle was adored by loving hearts across the world.  Created by the ex Chrysler Parts Fabricator Jim Mariol who wanted to stay in the business of cars.  This innovative car broke all the rules in styling and operations and it is a part of a permanent collection at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.  She sits proudly along side the Corvette, DeLorean and the Ford Model-T.

That's right folks, this lovable red and yellow ink injected one passenger car is the Little Tykes Cozy Coupe.  I bet you weren't expecting that one now, did you?

The Walking Dead

When I see Jesus, I usually don't think of anyone but Jesus...  I mean his appearance looks nothing other than Jesus Christ.  That's until I saw Jesus Christ looking like someone else.  Maybe I'm stretching it a bit, but does this not look like Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) from the AMC television series "The Walking Dead?"  Maybe I'll be the dead one even thinking this, especially if you disagree!

Mausoleum Folly

Of all hopes and all desires the field only reveals to man his own ridicules folly and despair.   The victory is only an illusion to philosophers and fools.  And for the rich, this is their last laugh that will never be seen until the afterlife!

Mother Nature

The white snow thaws as the river begins to swell overflowing the banks.  Never pausing for a second, the water continuously rushes as it roars through the leafless forest.  The time has finally come when the sun basks just a little warmth to make it all feel good.  Spring is here at last and the Summer heat will soon follow.  But, perhaps this is all a dream and the silent white will once again clash with the thundering wetness that will soon freeze over.

As majestic and beautiful Mother Nature is, she heeds to no one and will decide what will be the outcome!

Hobo Holiday

Me go look e Yonder
Down e tracks I Ponder
Me walk e long straight Line
I ask God for a Sign

Walk e long I Wander
Me wine do not squander
I waitin' for Moonshine

Me knee down, I begin to Pray

Wherever me roam, a Holiday

Me Hobo in freight Yard
Livin' life it ain't so Hard
Take one day at e Time
Scroungin' round for e Dime

Take e food from night Guard
Bacon full e fat Lard
Waitin' for e train Chime

Wherever me roam, a Holiday

Me go look e Yonder
Down e tracks I Ponder
Me walk e long straight Line

New York Central E8A

The beautifully restored New York Central 4083

This historic E8A Electro-Motive Division of General Motors (EMD) is currently owned by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey.  A Diesel-Electric Locomotive built in 1953 in La Grange, Illinois specifically as a streamlined passenger hauling locomotive.  The E8A was purchased by many major railroad companies throughout the United States.

This New York Central Railroad was used to pull some of America's most famous trains, such as the "20th Century Limited."  This number 4083 is sadly the only one out of three who survived the three-locomotive trio with the "Century Green" color scheme in 1961.

All aboard and live the dream of yesteryear once again before the the last of these magnificent beasts are gone forever!

Paint a Picture

An eyesore to most can hold hidden beauty to many.  In all things there is beauty that will emerge and spread joy to those who seek it.  Stop and take it all in for it will not last forever.  Before you know it, it will all be gone, never to be seen again.  Make a painting and imprint it in your brain so it will last a lifetime.  This we do subconsciously and without thought.

And the question always arises:  "Do you remember when...?"

Rise Above

Sometimes we fall by the forces of something out of our control.  Wether it be deliberate or unintentionally.  It is at this point we not stay down, but only rise again and stand on our own.

Rise Above.
